Alexander van Nuijs was born on February 26th, 1984 in Antwerp, Belgium. He completed his studies Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Antwerp (UAntwerp) in 2007, after which he started his PhD at the Toxicological centre of UAntwerp. In 2012 he finished his PhD studies in the field of wastewater-based epidemiology and since 2014 he became an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Antwerp, where he teaches in pharmaceutical analysis, toxicology and bioanalysis.
Alexander van Nuijs is (co-)promotor of 5 PhD students and has supervised > 15 Master theses. He has been conducting research on the bioanalysis of a wide range of pharmaceuticals, drugs and toxicants in biological and environmental matrices with chromatographic separations and mass spectrometric detection. He is a worldwide pioneer and expert in the field of wastewater-based epidemiology. He has published more than 70 international peer-reviewed publications and has a H-index of 26 (web of science).
