This talk will describe experiences from STAD’s (Stockholm prevents alcohol and drug problems) alcohol and drug prevention work in the nightlife setting, with the focus on two programs “Responsible Beverage Service” and “Clubs against Drugs” program. The interventions include e.g., community mobilization, training of servers and doormen, policy, and enforcement.
Research results have shown for instance: a decrease in overserving to intoxicated and under-aged guests, a decrease in police-reported violence, and an increase in doormen interventions towards drug-intoxicated guests. A cost-effectiveness analysis of the “Responsible Beverage Service” program showed that for every euro spent on the intervention, 39 euros were saved due to absent alcohol-related costs within the healthcare, police force and judicial system. STADs “Responsible Beverage Service” program is currently being disseminated in an EU-project called STAD in Europe (stadineurope.eu). The project includes seven countries; Czech Republic, Germany, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
