Drug checking services remain prohibited in Germany, therefore people seeking information have to rely on word-of-mouth information or drug checking results from other countries. Drug checking results are hardly accessible for users when they are about to take a decision, while promoters and club owners fearing police raids and unwanted attention in the media often keep harm-reduction information off their grounds.
On the other hand, the digital distribution of drug checking results is increasingly failing to address the needs of drug users, lacking a consistent, consolidated and usable format.
The KnowDrugs app addresses those issues, by combining the drug checking results of European and International organisations into a real-time updating, searchable feed and providing objective information on psychoactive substances, safer use and emergency situations.
With more than 100.000 downloads and 60.000 people from 136 countries using the app on a weekly basis, the KnowDrugs project has proven the value of rethinking the way we interact with drug users across local actors and policies on our way to a future of more human drug policies.
